WHAT IS AN OPTI? An OPTI is a small eight foot pram designed for one person to sail (see photo above.) SOME INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT OPTI'S 1. Worldwide there are over 300,000 OPTI's being sailed by youth from 8 to 14 years of age in over 110 countries 2. 60% of Olympic Sailors learned to sail in OPTI's 3. 70% of Olympic Gold Medal Winners started in OPTI's 4. OPTI is the only dinghy recognized by ISAF (International Sailing Association) for sailors under 16 yrs of age. 5. OPTI's are described as "the only bathtub that breeds the best sailors." 6. Sailing an OPTI helps to form independent decision making and self reliance. WHAT IS A LASER ? A Laser is a 13'10" one person dinghy with a 76 sq. ft. main sail. It is an ideal boat for ages 14 to 35 There are 180,000 LASER'S worldwide and it is recognized as an Olympic class sailboat. Anna Turncliff won a gold medal in the LASER class in the last Olympics. The boat weighs 130 lbs. and it is great for lakes & bays. The LASER planes in light air and is a delight to sail. |
